DAISY PULLS IT OFF by Denise Deegan

It's 1927 and Daisy Meredith has won a scholarship to Grangewood School for girls. It's a dream come true for an elementary school pupil, but can it live up to her expectations?

Daisy is welcomed into the fourth year by madcap and poet, Trixie Martin and together they go off in search of the lost school treasure. Other members of the upper fourth do not approve of their school standards being undermined by pupils from elementary schools, so Sybil Burlington and Monica Smithers set out to have Daisy expelled. Daisy battles against Sybil and Monica's mischief making and even manages to play in the first hockey team. Will Daisy and her friends overcome Sybil's plotting? Will Miss Gibson, the headmistress, make sure the girls play up and play the game? Will Daisy pull it off?

This delightfully humorous comedy looks back at a time before modern education. It still succeeds in touching on issues of concern today, such as bullying, while never ceasing to be entertaining. "Daisy Pulls It Off" has a style all of its own, combining phrase from the '20s with more modern innuendo and a hockey match scene that could be from a John Godber play.
